First things first – liquor. The best advice I can give is to buy quality liquors. I don’t mean that you have to invest in top shelf, high class liquor, but if you do, that’s not a bad idea either. Top shelf liquor will give a top shelf impression, no doubt about it. What you want to avoid, though, is buying bottom shelf or low quality liquor. Not only do you suffer in taste, the drinkers can suffer from indigestion or other poor reactions to low quality alcohol.

Home cocktail bars require a solid setup of liquor, and you’ll need a solid collection that includes variety, not just quality. A bourbon, gin, rum, scotch, tequila, vodka, and whiskey are the main ingredients you’ll want to go for. If you’re looking for a general guide in quality, anything “Captain Morgan” or better on the shelf should be fine. Also, if you’ve never tried Grey Goose for your vodka or Southern Comfort for your whiskey, your home cocktails bar is a great place to try that out.

In this underground (literally) bar, the mixologists create their own wildly concocted drinks that are part chemistry lab and part haute cuisine. One of the more eclectic recipes is the Thumbs Up, a blend of Beef-eater, lime and maraschino, a wonderful blend by itself, but Purl is not yet done. Add smoked chocolate soil. Add prosciutto. Now you have a truly unique cocktail that is the essence of its name.

My fifth factor on the list is security. Nightclub security is an activity just about everyone has become accustomed to, although how effectively this is run may have a large impact on the success of the venue. In an ideal world security should be understated but nevertheless extremely efficient. It is crucial that any location is safe and comfortable for both men and women to enjoy themselves. Inadequately run security can leave the venue feeling frightening and unwelcoming for every individual.

So there it is. Five simple things which I believe are useful and crucial to all cocktail bar and nightclubs. Whether you are conducting business or socialising with close friends, a well run, secure and nice looking venue could be the perfect destination for a visit.
